About Joy Kruse
I love to play with fire, this is a trait of almost all metalsmiths... being a pyromanic. I love to mix fire, metal & stone which by accident or design ( you pick) makes me a jeweler. I am self-taught for the most part and really enjoy making the entire piece right down to every little component.
Jewelry is now almost full-time for me. I am by education and devotion an RN. I am not ready to give up that vocation. I still enjoy being a nurse and still work as nurse once in awhile. It keeps me focused on others. It keeps me focused on real life.
I'm married and have two children. My family was the really the start of my jewelry business. We chose to have one of us stay home with the kids while they were infants. I stayed home and began making things in my spare time. I had no idea where that would lead. I had no idea that I had any skill or a passion for what I now live for. It's been a wonderful journey of learning and creating. It's been a pleasure to be home and be a mom and have a trade, a craft, a business that I love so much at the same time.
Inspiration? Where does it come from? I get that question all the time, epsecially with my unique stone pieces. My inspiration often comes in dreams or lost thoughts... it's very organic and a design is never any good if the thoughts are forced. Besides the random popup shadows in my head, other inspiration comes from the outdoors, kids, birds, flowers, flowing water, trees, religious symbols, everyday wonders.... I am surrounded by nature & solitude where I live and love it.
